Coastal Marine Sales & Services installs Seakeeper Ride at its shop at 3765 Shore Drive in Virginia Beach, near the Lesner Bridge at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. Seakeeper Ride is Seakeeper's Vessel Attitude Control System: controllers mounted to the transom below the waterline that counter pitch, roll, and yaw while the boat is underway.

Seakeeper offers Ride on new boats and as a refit on boats already on the water. The boat does not have to have been bought here; Seakeeper's refit criteria are a fiberglass or aluminum hull from 19 to 55 feet that cruises above 20 mph.

What it is

Seakeeper Ride
on Shore Drive.

How Seakeeper Ride works

Controllers on both sides of the transom, below the waterline. Inertial sensing tracks pitch, roll, and yaw, and rotary blades deploy into the water flow to create lift at the transom, 100 adjustments a second. It works underway, not at rest.

Sized by boat length

Ride 450 up to 26 ft · Ride 525 for 27–30 ft · Ride 600 for 31–36 ft · Ride 750 for about 37–42 ft · Ride 900–1500 for about 43–55 ft. Seakeeper requires an NMEA-compatible MFD with an ethernet port.

Seakeeper Ride is Seakeeper's Vessel Attitude Control System. Its controllers mount to both sides of the transom, below the waterline. Inertial sensing hardware and software track the boat's pitch, roll, and yaw, and rotary actuators drive rotary blades in and out of the water flow to create lift at the transom, making 100 adjustments every second. It works underway: Seakeeper says it begins to have trim authority at 10 mph, with full stabilization at around 20 to 25 mph, and it does not work at rest.

Seakeeper sizes Ride by boat length: the Ride 450 for boats up to 26 feet, the Ride 525 for 27 to 30 feet, the Ride 600 for 31 to 36 feet, the Ride 750 for about 37 to 42 feet (with a 750 quad for complex transoms), and the Ride 900 to 1500 for about 43 to 55 feet.

Seakeeper offers Ride as a refit on existing boats. Its compatibility checklist calls for a fiberglass or aluminum hull, stepped or non-stepped, 19 to 55 feet, monohull or catamaran, a cruising speed over 20 mph, and a compatible multifunction display; Seakeeper requires an NMEA-compatible MFD with an ethernet port. Seakeeper also has mounting options for boats with recessed trim-tab pockets. Call (757) 464-4600 with the boat's year, make, and length.

Seakeeper Ride is standard on some new Sailfish models and an option on others; which applies depends on the model and model year.
