What a Repower Center is

More than factory
certified.

A Yamaha Repower Center is a dealer Yamaha has specifically authorized to remove a boat's old or worn-out outboards and install new Yamaha power in their place. It is a distinct factory designation, beyond ordinary service certification, because Yamaha has signed off on the shop's ability to do the full motor swap correctly — the mounting, the controls, the rigging, and the warranty work a repower involves.

Coastal Marine Sales & Services is an authorized Yamaha Repower Center in Virginia Beach. The repower is done in-house by a factory-trained Yamaha Master Tech — the highest service credential Yamaha awards — backed by a bench of four Yamaha-certified technicians, in an enclosed, climate-controlled service bay on Shore Drive.

The swap

Any old motor,
new Yamaha power.

Repowering an older or competing-brand outboard to new Yamaha power is exactly what a Yamaha Repower Center is authorized to do, and it is one of the most common reasons boat owners come in. The motor coming off your transom does not have to be a Yamaha — we regularly swap tired or out-of-warranty outboards of other makes for new Yamaha power.

The new motor is always Yamaha. We are a Yamaha dealer and we install Yamaha outboards, and the swap includes the controls, gauges, and rigging the new setup needs so the whole package runs right from the first start. Warranty work on the Yamaha power we install is authorized in-house — no shipping your engine elsewhere.

Is my boat a candidate

How we decide if
a repower fits.

A repower is the right call when the hull is sound and the power is worn out. Here's what we look at before we ever quote one.

Sound hull

A repower keeps the hull, deck, and rigging you already own and replaces only the power. If the structure is solid, repowering is the cheaper path. It does nothing for a soft transom or stress cracks, and we check that before we quote.

Worn-out power

When the boat still rides and fishes the way you want and only the motors are tired, the repower replaces the part that was failing and keeps the part that was working. That's the boat we want to put new Yamaha power on.

Honest assessment

Before quoting, we walk through hull condition, engine hours, your fuel-economy expectations, and budget. Plenty of boats turn out not to need a repower. If buying a different boat is the smarter spend, we'll tell you that to your face.

Why repower

Keep the hull,
replace the power.

A repower extends the life of a structurally sound hull at a fraction of the cost of a new boat. A new outboard is one component; a new boat is the hull, the rigging, the electronics, and the dealer markup on all of it. Boats are expensive, and a good hull can long outlast its original motors.

So when your boat still rides and fishes the way you want and only the powerplant is worn out, putting fresh Yamaha power on a hull you already trust is usually the more sensible spend than starting over. If the hull is genuinely tired or you want a different boat, buying new can be the better choice — and we'll say so rather than sell you a repower you don't need.
